EU Whistleblowing Directive

This practical law course discusses your rights as a whistleblower and explains how you are protected under the new 2023 EU Directive on Whistleblowing, which applies to members of public or private organisations that employ more than 50 people. The Directive protects people like you who want to improve the EU by preventing professional retribution against whistleblowers after they report their organisation’s violations of EU Law, regulation and policy. There are ten areas in which the Directive applies and any threat to the public interest should be reported.

The EU Directive on Whistleblowing protects whistleblowers from retaliation from their employers, which could include termination, demotion, reduced pay, harassment or anything similar. The Directive protects the confidentiality and anonymity of the reporting individual even as case workers at the organisation complete the process of gathering information.
