Nexus Production Group has been creating unique and innovative film content since 2007. Nexus, which is now based in Malta and led by directors Ivan Malekin and Sarah Jayne Portelli, with close collaborators in Melbourne and New York, is motivated by creating compelling character-driven stories for traditional cinema and online viewing. Daughter, a short film and awareness initiative about victim-blaming and gendered violence featuring Katherine Langford, was produced by Nexus in 2016. The film has won numerous accolades at film festivals across the world and is still being used in classrooms in several countries. They co-produced and co-directed the ambitious improvised feature Friends, Foes & Fireworks in one night over New Year's Eve in 2017, won Best Drama at the Oz International Film Festival. While the world came to a halt in 2020, the couple continued to make material, creating and directing Machination, a psychological drama/horror about an anxious lady trying to cope as a pandemic swept the globe.

Ivan and SJ primarily work on micro-budget improvised films and provide live and online educational seminars for a variety of platforms and organisations, and several universities. They offer expertise in low and micro filmmaking, improvised filmmaking, producing, directing, story writing, video editing and production design.

Ivan and SJ continue to create art that they are glad to share and that encourages discussion, inspired by the life and the nuances of being human. They strive to share their experience and knowledge with other filmmakers to build a viable independent film industry, thus living up to the name Nexus.
